The atmosphere was charged for NCAE’s second statewide candidate meet-and-greet in Greensboro. The air buzzed with political fervor. Tables were adorned with campaign literature. Amid the vibrant hum of discussions, attendees engaged with the diverse slate of candidates present. The energy in the room was a testament to the significance of the upcoming elections and the pivotal role educators play in shaping the future of North Carolina's education landscape.

As the event unfolded, a symphony of passionate speeches and engaged conversations filled the room. Candidates articulated their visions for public education as they moved from table to table to answer members’ questions, not only about their values, but with snippets of their personalities as members learned about each candidate’s favorite teacher, favorite subject in school, and even preference to Sundrop or Cheerwine.

GCAE President Joanna Pendleton, who kicked off the event, said, “We were delighted to have several candidates for statewide offices meet NCAE members here in Greensboro! If you're picturing a stuffy meeting full of politicians schmoozing and giving stump speeches, think again! As a member, I got to meet each candidate in attendance, and our table group asked questions that were important to us and also just fun. The evening was marked by lots of laughter and engaging conversations that left me with a much better understanding of the electoral field as primary elections approach.”

NCAE Board member and Region 7B director Rita Jackson Gilbert, captured the essence of the event commenting, “At a time when the reservoir of hope is running dry it was a pleasure to meet candidates who shared their vision for public education and most importantly are willing to unify and amplify our educator voices in their perspective offices.”

The experience of sitting with candidates and fellow educators added a personal touch to the event. Conversations conveyed determination, solidarity, and a shared commitment to the betterment of North Carolina's public education system. The exchange of campaign flyers and business cards became symbolic tokens of allegiance to the causes that resonated most with attendees. The event truly encapsulated the spirit of our union’s effort to continue building towards the 2024 primary elections.
