The Position
The North Carolina Association of Educators seeks a talented, dedicated, and experienced union, community or electoral organizing manager to fill the position of Organizing Manager. The Organizing Manager will, with other Organizing Managers, lead a multi-level organizing team to develop field plans, help develop local strategic plans, and achieve targeted membership growth and engagement goals that transform our communities. The Organizing Manager will report to the Organizing & Field Services Director.
About North Carolina Association of Educators
The North Carolina Association of Educators (NCAE) is building a movement to defend and transform public education in our state. In the last three years we've led the largest educator walkouts in state history, and mobilized thousands of voters across the state to the polls as part of our successful campaign to halt the privatizer-controlled General Assembly’s eight-year legislative assault on our educators, students, and communities. In that same time, several of our locals have also fought for and won historic pay increases for custodians and other staff and harnessed the momentum from those wins to propel themselves into ranking among the fastest-growing National Education Association affiliates in the country.
We're on the cusp of restoring North Carolina as a national leader on education policy and are making moves from the Sandhills to the mountains to win the schools our students deserve.
Responsibilities Include:
- Hire, train, coach, and manage a team of Lead Organizers, UniServ Directors, Apprentice Organizers in targeted locals across the state, including overseeing day-to-day assignments, frequent worksite visits, meeting facilitation, debriefs, shadowing and leading trainings as needed
- Design, implement, manage, and evaluate a plans, campaigns and programs designed to grow membership
- Evaluate programs using data collected by field staff and ensure adherence to data collection standards across field teams
- Build an organizing team culture that is innovative, hungry to learn, and inspired to fight to defend and transform our public schools
- Develop, design, and maintain resources, trainings, and systems to improve the functioning of the organizing team
Skills and Qualifications:
- At least 4-5 years of organizing experience in labor organizing or comparable environments in electoral, community, or movement organizing
- At least 2-3 years of management experience; experience managing in an organizing context and experience managing managers preferred
- At least 2-3 years experience designing political accountability, legislative, electoral or issue-based campaigns
- Strong interpersonal skills, a deep understanding of trust-building, and the ability to communicate with people from different backgrounds
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to be adaptable and flexible in a fast-paced environment
- An understanding of and commitment to the kinds of trainings, resources, and organizing management support systems that set organizers up for success
- Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously, meeting frequent and tight deadlines
- An excellent collaborator and team player
- A willingness to work nights and weekends when needed

Logistics:
Location: Must live in North Carolina with ability and willingness to travel
Compensation:
- Salary: $75,000 - $90,000/yr, based on experience
