NCAE Denounces Supreme Court Inaction on Leandro Case

NC Supreme Court Refuses to Rule, Denying Students and Public Schools the Resources They Deserve
Published: December 13, 2024

Raleigh, NC – The North Carolina Association of Educators (NCAE) issued a statement today condemning the North Carolina Supreme Court’s failure to act in the Leandro Case. The court’s refusal to compel the state legislature to fulfill its constitutional obligation to provide a sound education for every child should outrage all North Carolinians.

“Inaction is an action that speaks volumes to the people of North Carolina. Instead of ensuring our children and public schools receive the funding and resources they deserve, the Republican majority on the court continues to delay without explanation. This perpetuates a legacy of disenfranchisement. It has been over two years since the court’s last opinion on this case. How much longer must our children, their families, and our schools wait for the constitutional promise of a sound education to be fulfilled?”

- Nicole Price, NCAE Associate Executive Director
